CCI buying needs your cotton to meet a fair average quality standard for moisture and trash, so dry, clean, well graded cotton passes more easily. Private traders sometimes pay a premium for very good long staple lots, so it can be worth comparing both for your specific quality. Keep your land and ID documents ready for CCI registration at the centre. When the market was below MSP I took the clean, dry lots to CCI and got the support price, but for one very good long staple lot a private trader actually paid a bit more. So I did not stick blindly to one channel, I compared per lot. Keeping the cotton dry was what got it accepted at CCI without trouble.

One caution about private traders, the quick cash is tempting but some make deductions for moisture and trash that eat into the rate. CCI is slower and has paperwork but the price is protected at MSP. Decide based on whether you need urgent cash or can wait. Keep your land records and ID ready in advance for the CCI centre.

Get your documents and registration sorted early at the CCI centre, because near the peak arrival days the queues get very long and you may have to wait with your loaded vehicle. The farmers who registered ahead moved faster. Confirm the centre timings and the season's quality norms before you load the cart.

I split it, sold the very best long staple lot to a private trader who paid a small premium and took the rest to CCI at the support price. Comparing per lot rather than dumping everything one place got me a better overall return. Keep the cotton dry so CCI accepts it without a moisture cut.
