Under the Namo Drone Didi central scheme, selected women SHGs get 80 percent central assistance on the cost of an agriculture drone and accessories, up to a maximum of 8 lakh rupees. The drone package includes the spraying assembly, batteries, fast charger, carrying box, camera and a one year warranty. One SHG member is trained as a drone pilot for about 15 days and another as a drone assistant. The balance amount beyond subsidy can be raised as a loan under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund with a 3 percent interest subvention. The SHG then earns rental income by spraying liquid fertiliser and pesticide on farmers fields in the cluster. Selection happens through the rural livelihood mission and fertiliser company partners. Talk to your SRLM and cluster federation to know if your area is covered in the current phase.

Our cluster federation got one drone this way. The pilot training for our member was tough but useful. Real money comes only if there are enough farmers nearby who want spraying done, so check demand in your villages first. In our area paddy and cotton farmers book us during pest season.

Good scheme but remember a drone needs servicing and battery care. We keep the carrying box and charge batteries properly, otherwise repair costs eat the profit. Also keep a booking register so you do not double book the same morning. We earn decent extra income in the spraying months.

One thing to plan is who flies the drone if the trained Didi is unwell or busy, so train a second member too if allowed. The income is seasonal, mostly during the crop spray window, so we keep the rest of the year for other SHG work. Selection took time in our block, follow up regularly at the federation office.

We earn per acre for spraying, the rate depends on your area, so ask other SHGs nearby what they charge before fixing yours. The fertiliser company tie up gave us our first bookings. Keep the drone insured and the pilot certificate safe, the company asks for it.
