RKVY-RAFTAAR agri startup grant in aid pre seed seed stage incubation

Under the RKVY-RAFTAAR innovation and agri-entrepreneurship programme a startup can get grant in aid at two stages through recognised RKVY Agribusiness Incubators. At the idea or pre seed stage the support is up to 5 lakh rupees, and at the seed stage it is up to 25 lakh rupees as grant. The pre seed support typically covers around 90 percent of project cost and seed stage around 85 percent, with the rest from you. Funds are released in tranches against milestones, not all at once. You apply through an empanelled agribusiness incubator hosted at an agricultural university or institute, attend their orientation cohort, and pitch your business plan. The idea should be in agriculture or allied sector with a clear market. Confirm current cohort dates and exact percentages directly with your nearest R-ABI as terms are updated periodically.
I applied through an incubator at a state agri university for my farm produce drying unit. Got selected at the pre seed stage. The most important thing they checked was whether my idea actually solves a farmer problem and can earn revenue, not just a fancy plan. Prepare your numbers well before the pitch.
One caution from my experience, the grant comes in parts after you show progress, so do not assume you get the full amount upfront. I had to spend some of my own money first and claim later. Keep all bills and receipts very neatly because they ask for documents at every tranche.
A practical step that helped me was attending the incubator orientation before applying, so I understood exactly what documents and milestones they expect. List of incubators is on the RKVY portal, pick one near you or one that knows your sector. They also give free mentoring which was worth more than the money at the start.
