For 20 to 25 acres, look at 50 to 75 HP. At this size you run wider implements (9 tine cultivators, multi row seed drills, bigger rotavators) and a higher HP tractor finishes operations faster within the short sowing window. A 50 to 60 HP tractor suits mixed work, while 65 to 75 HP makes sense if you do heavy tillage, deep ploughing or haul large trolleys. Above 75 HP is generally for 25 plus acres or commercial custom hiring. Always size the tractor to your widest implement and your soil; heavy black soil needs more power than light loam for the same width.

I have 22 acres in black soil and use a 60 HP tractor. It handles a 9 tine cultivator and a 7 foot rotavator without strain. For black soil do not go below 55 HP or you will struggle in deep tillage.

We do custom hiring on 25 plus acres and a 65 HP machine pays for itself with rotavator and trolley jobs for neighbours. Higher HP means more work done per day in the season.
