Which fodder maize variety and seed rate for green fodder?

For green fodder, grow tall leafy fodder type maize such as African Tall and J 1006, which give high green biomass for dairy cattle. Fodder maize uses a much higher seed rate than grain maize, roughly 30 to 40 kg per acre, because you want a dense leafy stand rather than well filled cobs. Sow in close rows and harvest at the early dough or flowering stage for the best balance of yield and quality.
