Sow coriander for seed in the rabi season, generally mid October to mid November in north and central India, so flowering escapes high heat which causes seed shrivelling. Powdery mildew is the most damaging disease at flowering and seed set, showing as white powder on leaves and stems. Control it by spraying wettable sulphur at 0.25 percent or a dinocap based fungicide, repeating twice at 10 to 15 day intervals starting at first appearance. Avoid late sowing and dense stands, both worsen the disease. Pick a moderately tolerant variety, keep good spacing for airflow, and harvest when seeds turn brown but before they shatter.

Sulphur spray works if you start early, once the mildew covers the plant it is too late. I scout at flowering time and spray at the first white patches.

Do not sow too late chasing moisture. Late dhania catches heat at seed filling and the seed comes light. Timely rabi sowing gave me much heavier seed.

If you want green leaf cutting plus a seed crop from the same field, do not cut leaf too late or the seed yield drops. I take one early light cutting only and then let it run to seed. For a pure seed crop skip cutting altogether.

Spacing for airflow really cut my mildew. When I sowed thick to get more plants the disease loved the crowded canopy. Wider rows with sulphur ready paid off in heavier cleaner seed.
