Coriander (Coriandrum sativum) is a short-duration spice and leafy crop grown both for green leaves and for seed. Its nutrient needs are moderate compared with long-duration vegetables, but balanced feeding sharply improves leaf yield, branching and seed setting. For leafy coriander, steady nitrogen keeps the foliage tender, green and fast-growing, while for seed crops a balance of phosphorus and potash supports flowering and grain filling. A good base of farmyard manure mixed in before sowing builds the soil and releases nutrients slowly through the short cycle. Because coriander is often grown densely and harvested quickly, even spreading and timely top dressing matter. Always set your dose from a Soil Health Card soil test and confirm with your local KVK, since irrigated and rainfed coriander have different requirements.

Recommended NPK dose for Coriander

A common recommendation is about 50 to 60 kg nitrogen, 25 to 40 kg phosphorus and 20 to 30 kg potash per hectare, which is roughly 20 to 25 kg N, 10 to 16 kg P and 8 to 12 kg K per acre. Leafy coriander grown only for greens needs slightly more nitrogen, while seed crops need balanced phosphorus and potash. Rainfed coriander needs less than irrigated. Zinc deficiency shows as yellowing between veins on younger leaves and small, narrow growth; correct it with a foliar spray of zinc sulphate when a soil test confirms it. Iron deficiency in alkaline soils causes yellow young leaves with green veins, helped by a foliar iron spray. Boron is rarely needed and should be used only when a soil test shows a shortage, as excess boron quickly damages this sensitive crop.
