For meat (chevon) farming, Sirohi, Black Bengal, Osmanabadi and Boer (or Boer crosses) are among the most profitable, depending on your region. Sirohi is hardy, disease resistant and good for semi-arid areas; Boer crosses grow fastest and give heavy carcass weight but need better feed and care; Black Bengal has excellent meat quality and high twinning but lower body weight. For most beginners, a hardy local breed like Sirohi or Osmanabadi gives the best survival and lowest risk. Profit depends more on low kid mortality, deworming, vaccination and selling at the right festival demand than on breed alone. Choose a breed already proven in your district.

I rear Sirohi in a semi-arid area, very hardy and good buyer demand at Bakrid. Tried a Boer cross too, grows faster but needs more feed and shelter from rain.

In eastern India Black Bengal is hard to beat for meat quality and demand, and the does often give twins. The body weight is small so you sell more heads, but mortality is low and they survive on very little. Match the breed to what buyers in your own market actually pay for.

Whatever breed you pick, the buck decides half your profit. A good heavy buck of the same breed lifts the growth of all the kids. I spent more on one quality buck and the next kid crop was clearly heavier at sale time.

Do not chase pure Boer in a hot dry region unless you can give shade, dry housing and better feed. My pure Boer kids fell sick in the rains, but the Boer x Sirohi crosses did well, grew fast and stayed hardy. Crosses gave me the best balance.

Selling at the right time matters as much as the breed. I plan kidding so animals reach good weight a month or two before Bakrid, when rates peak. Selling off-season at a flat rate cut my margin a lot in the first year.
