Jeevamrit is a fermented microbial culture used in natural farming, made from local cow dung and cow urine plus jaggery, besan (pulse flour), water, and a handful of live forest or bund soil. A common recipe per 200 litres of water is about 10 kg cow dung, 5 to 10 litres cow urine, 1 to 2 kg jaggery, 1 to 2 kg besan, and a handful of soil; stir twice a day clockwise and ferment in shade for about 5 to 7 days. Apply it through irrigation water or as a soil drench, roughly 200 litres per acre, repeated every few weeks; a foliar spray of filtered, diluted jeevamrit is also used. It feeds soil microbes rather than directly feeding the plant, so combine with mulching and minimal disturbance. Use fresh; do not store too long.

Use dung and urine from local desi cows if you can; that is what the natural farming trainers stress. I keep one desi cow mainly to supply the dung and urine for jeevamrit.

Apply it on moist soil, not bone-dry land, so the microbes survive and spread. I time my jeevamrit drench right after a light irrigation and follow it with mulch to keep the surface cool.

Do not let it over-ferment. After about a week it starts smelling bad and loses its punch. I now make smaller batches more often and use each one fresh rather than storing a big drum.
