What sprayer nozzle and how much water for herbicide spraying?

Sprayer setup is often the difference between good and poor weed control, and many failures blamed on the chemical are really application mistakes. For herbicides, use a flat-fan or flood-jet nozzle, not the cone (hollow-cone) nozzle used for insecticides, because flat-fan gives an even sheet of spray over the soil and weeds rather than a fine mist that drifts. Keep the boom or lance at a steady height so the spray pattern overlaps evenly, and walk at a constant pace in straight, non-overlapping passes so you do not leave gaps or double-dose strips. Use the full label water volume, which for most ground sprays is around 150 to 200 litres per acre, because too little water means poor coverage and patchy kill, while the right volume wets all the weeds and soil. Calibrate the sprayer first: spray clean water over a measured area to check your actual output matches the target, then mix the chemical for that area. Spray on a calm day to avoid drift, and clean the tank well, especially after a hormone weedicide like 2,4-D, before using it on a sensitive crop. Always follow the product label for nozzle, water volume and dose, and ask your KVK if unsure.
