I want to do natural farming the government way and get whatever support is available. How do I actually enrol under NMNF and what do they give?

The National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF) is the central scheme that promotes chemical free farming based on cow based inputs and local resources, and like PKVY it works through groups and clusters rather than lone applications. Support typically covers cluster formation, farmer training and handholding by trained resource persons, support for setting up bio input and on farm input production, and demonstration plots, with assistance flowing through your state agriculture department or the designated implementing agency. To join, approach your block or district agriculture office and ask which natural farming clusters or demonstrations are being taken up this year, and whether your village or FPO group can be enrolled. States like Andhra Pradesh also run their own large community managed natural farming programmes, so ask specifically about both the central NMNF and any state programme, because in some states the state scheme is the more active route. The exact assistance heads and per unit support are set in the scheme guidelines and revised periodically, so confirm current details with your agriculture department or the official NMNF portal.

In Andhra the state natural farming programme through the women's groups and resource persons was easier to join than waiting for the central one. Ask your mandal office about the community natural farming community resource persons.

The training and the resource person handholding was the most useful part for me, more than any input money. Learning to make and time the inputs correctly is what actually cut my costs.
