What is MIDH and which horticulture activities does it actually fund?

MIDH stands for Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture. It is the central scheme that merged the earlier National Horticulture Mission (NHM), the Horticulture Mission for North East and Himalayan States (HMNEH), the National Bamboo Mission and a few others into one umbrella. The idea is to support the whole horticulture chain, not just one piece. The broad areas it funds are: area expansion and new orchards of fruits, vegetables, spices, flowers and plantation crops; protected cultivation like polyhouse, shade net and net house; precision farming such as drip and fertigation; production of quality planting material through nurseries and tissue culture; post-harvest infrastructure like pack houses, cold rooms, ripening chambers and cold storage; mechanisation; and allied activities such as beekeeping and mushroom. It is implemented through your State Horticulture Mission, so the actual menu of components and the cost norms for your state are published by your State Horticulture Department. Always confirm the current component list and rates on your state horticulture portal before you plan, because not every component is open in every state every year.
