Both drip and sprinkler get the same PMKSY rate, 55 percent for small and marginal and 45 percent for other farmers on approved unit cost, so the choice is about your crop, not the subsidy percent. Drip suits widely spaced row and horticulture crops like cotton, sugarcane, vegetables, banana and orchards, giving the highest water saving. Sprinkler suits closely sown field crops like wheat, groundnut, pulses and fodder. Drip systems usually cost more per acre, so the rupee subsidy is larger, but maintenance is also higher. Pick the system that matches your crop spacing first, then apply on your state portal for that system.

On water quality, drip clogs faster if your water is salty or muddy, so you need a good filter and regular flushing. Sprinkler is more forgiving there. Since the subsidy percentage is identical, match the system to your crop and water source, not to whichever rupee figure looks bigger, and the subsidy follows.
