Is the pump and panel maintenance free under PM-KUSUM or do I pay for repairs?

What the PM-KUSUM warranty and maintenance period actually covers, what falls on the farmer, and how to keep panels working.

Maintenance is not unlimited free for life, but PM-KUSUM systems do come with a warranty and a maintenance obligation on the vendor for a defined period, which is set in the state tender. Commonly the solar panels carry a long performance warranty of many years, while the pump, controller and balance of system are covered by the vendor for a shorter comprehensive maintenance period, often around five years from commissioning, during which the empanelled vendor is supposed to repair or replace faulty parts at no cost to you. The exact warranty years and what is covered are written in your work order and the tender, so read them and keep that paper safe. What usually does not fall under free maintenance is damage from misuse, theft of panels, lightning or storm damage beyond the warranty terms, and routine upkeep like keeping the panels clean. Cleaning the panel surface of dust regularly, keeping the area free of shade and vegetation, and protecting the wiring make a big difference to output and are your responsibility. After the comprehensive maintenance period ends, repairs and part replacement generally become your cost, so it is worth understanding from the start how long your free maintenance runs and getting the vendor service contact in writing. Confirm the exact warranty and maintenance period, and how to log a complaint during it, on your state PM-KUSUM documents.

During my maintenance years the vendor replaced the controller free when it failed. Keep the work order and their service number handy, that is how I logged the complaint.

Cleaning the panels of dust every few weeks really does change the water output. That part is on us, not the company.
