I harvested kodo but it has husk, how do I dehusk and clean it for eating or selling

Kodo millet grain is tightly enclosed in a husk that must be removed before eating or selling as edible grain, and this dehusking is the main bottleneck for small millet growers. Harvest and dry the grain well, clean it of straw and dust, then dehusk using a small millet dehuller, which is now available at many KVKs, FPOs and custom processing centres, since home pounding is slow and gives poor recovery. After dehusking, grade and clean the grain to remove unhusked grain and brokens, which improves the price. Properly processed clean kodo fetches a far better rate than raw grain with husk. Ask your KVK or FPO where the nearest millet dehuller is and whether processing is offered.
The dehuller is the key, hand pounding kodo is hard work with poor recovery. Our FPO has a small millet processing unit now. Clean dehusked grain sells for much more than the raw with husk.
