How do I control rhizome rot when growing ginger for dry ginger (sonth)?

Rhizome rot (soft rot) is the biggest threat to a ginger crop and it starts from infected seed and waterlogged soil. Prevent it by selecting healthy disease free seed rhizomes, treating seed with a recommended bio agent like Trichoderma and a fungicide before planting, and choosing well drained soil with raised beds so water never stands around the rhizomes. Avoid planting ginger in the same field repeatedly. At the first sign of yellowing and collapsing clumps, remove and destroy affected plants and improve drainage. Drench with a recommended fungicide following the label if the disease appears. Since you are growing for sonth, a clean healthy crop also dries into better quality.
