Minimum Support Price (MSP) is the guaranteed price at which the government promises to buy certain crops from farmers, so that even if market prices fall, you have a floor. MSP is announced by the central government before each season based on recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP). It is declared for 23 crops, including paddy, wheat, jowar, bajra, maize, ragi, barley, and pulses like tur, moong, urad and gram, oilseeds like groundnut, soybean, sunflower and mustard, plus cotton, jute and copra. To actually get MSP you must register on your state procurement portal and bring your produce to a notified procurement centre during the buying window. Check the latest MSP rates on the agriculture ministry website or your mandi.

MSP declare hone aur actual kharidi hone me farak hai. Sarkar 23 fasal par MSP ghoshit karti hai par har fasal har jagah khareedi nahi jaati. Apne zile me kya procure hota hai, ye mandi se confirm karo.

Even if you do not sell to the government, the MSP is useful as a bargaining number in the open mandi. When private traders offered me below MSP for my soybean, I quoted the announced rate and got a better deal.
