Last season insects attacked my lac and the yield was poor. How do I protect the lac crop from the predator and parasite insects that cause losses?

Predator caterpillars and parasite wasps are a major cause of lac loss. Key practices recommended by ICAR-IINRG include: use clean, healthy broodlac and remove and treat it properly before inoculation so you do not carry predators and parasites into a fresh crop, inoculate at the right time, and harvest mature lac promptly rather than leaving it on the tree where predators build up. Removing the emerging crop carefully and managing the brood is central. Avoid carrying over infested material. For any recommended treatment of broodlac or specific pest management, follow the IINRG advisory and your state department, since the correct method and timing matter. The single biggest control is good brood hygiene and timely harvest. Confirm the current package of practice with IINRG or your KVK.
Treating the broodlac before inoculation and not leaving the crop too long on the tree reduced my losses a lot in Mandla. Carrying over infested twigs just spreads the problem.
