On a Kisan Credit Card, short-term crop loans carry a base rate of around 9% but the government brings the effective rate down to just 4% per year for farmers who repay on time. This happens through the Modified Interest Subvention Scheme: the government gives banks an interest subvention so the farmer pays 7%, and an extra 3% Prompt Repayment Incentive is given to farmers who repay by the due date, making the net rate 4%. From 2025-26 this concessional benefit applies on loans up to Rs 5 lakh (raised from Rs 3 lakh earlier). Important: if you repay even one day late you lose the rebate and pay the full rate, so always repay on time. Aadhaar must be seeded with your loan account to get the subvention.
Main har saal time pe wapas karta hoon to mujhe 4% padta hai. Ek saal late ho gaya tha to poora 7 percent se zyada lag gaya. Time pe chukana hi faayda hai KCC me.
The 4% rate only applies up to the concessional ceiling. The portion of my loan above that limit was charged at the bank's normal rate, so do not assume the whole big loan is at 4%. Ask your bank exactly how much qualifies.
