PMFBY covers notified crops in notified areas, and the exact list is decided by each state for every season. Generally it includes major food grains (paddy, wheat, jowar, bajra, maize, barley), pulses (tur, gram, moong, urad), oilseeds (groundnut, soybean, mustard, sunflower), and notified commercial and horticultural crops (cotton, sugarcane, potato, onion, chilli and several fruits). A crop is insurable in your area only if the state has notified it there and enough past yield data exists. To know if your specific crop is covered in your village this season, check pmfby.gov.in or ask your bank or agriculture office, because a crop covered in one district may not be notified in another.

Hamare zile me pyaaz cover hoti hai par paas wale zile me nahi. Isliye apne hi gaon ke liye confirm karwao, doosre ke bharose mat raho. Krishi office me list mil jaati hai.

Horticulture and fruit crops are sometimes covered under a separate restructured weather-based scheme rather than the regular PMFBY in some states. When I asked about my mango orchard, the bank pointed me to that. So ask specifically for your crop, do not assume one scheme covers everything.

Notified list har season nayi hoti hai. Pichle saal jo fasal cover thi, zaroori nahi is saal bhi ho. Main har season bank ya krishi office se confirm karta hoon, kyunki state notification badalti rehti hai.

If your crop is grown widely in your area but you cannot find it in the list, it may simply not have enough past yield data to be notified there yet. The agriculture office explained this to me. In that case, ask whether any alternative cover applies for that crop.
