Indoor vertical farming with stacked layers and LED lighting is the most capital intensive of all these systems, because you are paying for the building, the racking, the LED grow lights, climate control, the growing system, and automation, all to replace free sunlight. Setup cost is high and very project specific, easily running into many lakhs even for a modest facility, and far more for fully automated units. Just as important is the running cost, electricity for lighting and air conditioning is the dominant ongoing expense and it is unforgiving in a hot climate with costly power. Viability in India is genuinely difficult and many early ventures have struggled or shut, because the high power cost competes against a country with abundant sunlight where polyhouses and open field grow the same crops far cheaper. It can work only in a narrow niche, premium leafy greens and herbs sold to high-end urban buyers at strong prices, with excellent operational control. Approach claims with heavy scepticism, study farms that have run for years, and build a brutally honest power and depreciation budget before believing any plan.

The LED and AC power bill is the whole game. In our city power is costly and the maths just did not close. I shelved the idea after running the numbers.

Saw a flashy vertical farm open near me and quietly shut within two years. The setup looked great but the running cost was unsustainable. Be very careful.
