seeing huge profit claims for hydroponics on youtube, want an honest reality check on ROI

Be sceptical of the big profit claims online, many are either best-case demonstrations, are quoting gross revenue not net profit, or come from people selling setups and training. The honest picture is that hydroponics can be profitable but the ROI is highly variable and the payback on a serious setup often takes several years, not months. Profit depends on three things you control poorly: securing a premium buyer, keeping crops healthy in an unforgiving system, and controlling running costs like power and labour. Many farms make decent revenue but thin or negative net profit once depreciation on the costly equipment, power, nutrients and labour are counted honestly. It is not a get-rich scheme and it is not passive. It rewards a hands-on operator with a strong market and good technical skill, and it punishes everyone else. Before believing any number, ask the source for their net profit after all costs and depreciation, talk to growers who have run for at least two or three years, and build your own conservative budget verified with local rates.
The youtube numbers nearly trapped me. When I sat with a grower running three years, his real net after power and labour was a fraction of what the videos claim. Glad I asked.
Power cost is the silent killer of ROI. My pumps and cooling ran the bill up. If your power is unreliable or costly, the maths gets hard.
