Buy from government forest nurseries, agricultural or forestry university nurseries, or registered reliable private nurseries, and avoid roadside or unknown sellers. A healthy sandalwood seedling should be raised with a host plant in the same bag or nearby, since it needs a host even at nursery stage. Ask about the seed source and check the plants look sturdy, green and not root bound. Get a bill. Be cautious of any nursery that also pushes a guaranteed buyback scheme, as that is a common scam combination. When in doubt, ask your State Forest Department or KVK which nurseries they recommend for sandalwood.
