How much spacing and what nursery does small cardamom need before field planting?

Small cardamom is usually raised first in a primary nursery from seed or planted directly from healthy suckers or tissue culture plants, then often grown on in a secondary nursery before going to the field as a well rooted plant. Planting in the field is best done at the start of the rains so plants establish in moist soil, on slopes with regulated shade and good drainage. Spacing depends on the variety habit, commonly around 2 by 2 metres for the spreading Malabar type and a little closer for compact types, planted in pits with compost. Tissue culture plants give uniform disease free starts but should come from a reliable lab.
