Be cautious and realistic about hops. Hops is a temperate climbing crop that traditionally needs long summer day length and cold winters, which is why it grows in high latitude countries, and India sits at a lower latitude with shorter summer days. It can potentially grow in cool high altitude Himalayan areas like parts of Himachal Pradesh and the hills, and there is interest because the craft beer industry currently imports almost all its hops, but it is still largely experimental in India and not a proven, widely successful commercial crop. The plant needs tall trellises, several years to establish, and careful drying of the cones. If you are in a cool hill area and curious, treat it as a trial in partnership with a research institute or a brewery offtake, confirm suitability and planting material with ICAR or a state agricultural university, and do not invest heavily on the strength of import substitution alone.
