Thrips and two spotted spider mite are the two pests that wreck polyhouse rose grade, thrips scar the buds and petals, mites cause speckling and webbing under leaves in hot dry conditions. Use a mix of measures, sticky traps to monitor and catch thrips, keeping humidity from getting too low since dry heat favours mites, and rotating any sprays so the pest does not build resistance, which is a common problem in roses. Use only products labelled for the crop and pest, follow the label dose and waiting period, and rotate modes of action. Bio control agents are used by some growers as part of the programme. Because resistance is a real issue here, get a current rotation plan from your KVK or a floriculture specialist rather than spraying the same thing repeatedly.

Rotation is key, I was spraying the same group again and again and the thrips just laughed. Once I rotated and used traps to monitor, control got much better.

Mites hit me hardest in the hot dry months. Keeping the house from going bone dry helped knock them back. Check the underside of leaves regularly, by the time you see webbing it is already bad.
