Small vegetable growers usually get better prices by aggregating and selling collectively rather than each selling small lots to a trader. Joining or forming a Farmer Producer Organisation lets members pool produce, grade and pack to a standard, and negotiate with bulk buyers, retailers, processors and distant mandis, reducing the middleman share. Grading by size and quality, clean packing and consistent supply raise the price buyers will pay. Explore selling on the electronic National Agriculture Market eNAM where your mandi is linked, and direct channels like weekly farmer markets and tie ups with hotels or retail chains. Government schemes support FPO formation and infrastructure. For current scheme details and registered FPOs near you, contact your district agriculture office, ATMA or SFAC and verify benefits officially before joining.

Our FPO near Nashik started grading and packing tomatoes and gourds together and selling to a city retailer. Even after deducting the FPO cost we earned more than selling alone at the local mandi, and payment is more reliable.

Consistency of supply is what kept our buyer with us. One member alone could never promise a steady quantity, but as a group we could deliver the same lot every few days. That reliability is what made the retailer agree to a better fixed price.
