Celery seed is very small and slow and uneven to germinate, which is the first hurdle most growers hit. Raise it in trays or a fine, well-prepared nursery bed, sow shallow because the seed needs light and barely any cover, keep it constantly moist, and be patient as germination takes longer than most vegetables. Transplant the seedlings once they are sturdy enough to handle. Buy fresh seed from a reputable supplier since old celery seed germinates poorly. Confirm a suitable variety and nursery timing with your KVK or an experienced grower before sowing a large batch.

Patience is the main thing with celery seed. The first time I gave up too soon thinking it failed, it just germinates slow and uneven, so keep the tray moist and wait.
