Broccoli yields commonly fall in a range, often around 4 to 8 tonnes per acre for the main central head, depending on variety, spacing and management, and some hybrids give useful side shoots after the main head is cut. The main pests are the same as other cole crops: diamondback moth, cabbage butterfly larvae and aphids, plus damping off in the nursery. Use clean nursery practice, scout regularly, and use recommended biopesticides or labelled insecticides following the pre harvest interval, because heads are eaten directly and residue matters for hotel and retail buyers. Diamondback moth is my main headache. I rotate sprays and use pheromone traps, and I stop chemical sprays well before cutting because my retail buyer checks.

First year I lost a lot of seedlings to damping off in a wet nursery. Now I raise plants in trays under a net and the stand is much better.
