What is the income potential from dried apricot and kernels in cold desert areas?

Fresh apricot does not travel from my remote area, so I focus on dried apricot and selling kernels. What is the realistic income range from this, and how do I add value?

Dried apricot and kernels are the backbone of apricot income in cold-desert belts like Ladakh because fresh fruit cannot reach distant markets. Value comes in tiers: plain sun-dried fruit sells at a base rate, but hygienically dried, graded, sulphur-free or organically certified, and well-packed apricot sells at a clearly higher rate to health-food and online buyers; sweet-kernel apricots fetch a premium and the kernels and apricot kernel oil add another revenue stream; bitter kernels are sold separately for oil. Income per acre varies a lot with yield, drying quality, grading and market access, so improved drying (solar dryers instead of open ground), clean grading, branding the origin, and selling direct or through producer groups can multiply returns over selling raw to a trader. Mountain and tribal area schemes and FPOs help with dryers and market linkage. Treat the figures as ranges and confirm current buyer rates, as premium organic and branded prices are far above bulk trader rates.

Switching from drying on the ground to a solar dryer improved my quality and price a lot. Clean graded apricot sells far better online than bulk to a trader.

Sweet kernel apricots are worth more, and the oil sells well too. Selling through our group got better rates than individual selling.
