How do I control premature fruit drop and improve color in high-density apples?

In my high-density apple block a lot of fruit drops before harvest and the colour is patchy and dull. The eating apples look fine but do not colour well. How do I reduce drop and improve red colour?

Pre-harvest drop in apple is driven by natural abscission near maturity, water stress, and poor nutrition; colour depends on sunlight reaching the fruit, cool nights near harvest, and potassium status. To cut drop: keep even soil moisture with drip in the weeks before harvest, maintain balanced nutrition especially adequate calcium and potassium, and a recommended pre-harvest drop control spray such as NAA can be used at the correct timing and dose under horticulture department advice, observing the pre-harvest interval. To improve red colour: prune and train the tall spindle to let sunlight into the canopy, remove or reflect with under-tree reflective sheets where used, do summer pruning of shading shoots, avoid excess nitrogen which keeps fruit green, and ensure good potassium. Harvest at correct maturity by colour, firmness and starch test, not too early. Cool night temperature near harvest naturally boosts colour, so altitude and timing matter. Open canopy plus balanced nutrition fixes most colour problems.

Summer pruning to open the canopy improved my colour a lot. Too much shade and too much nitrogen were keeping fruit green and dull.

Reflective sheets under the trees helped the lower fruit colour up. Steady drip irrigation near harvest reduced my drop too.
