Aonla is a hardy, low input crop, but a few problems do show up: bark eating caterpillar that tunnels in the bark and feeds at night, shoot gall psylla and gall forming pests, rust and leaf or fruit spots in some seasons, and ring or fruit rust that affects fruit appearance. For bark eating caterpillar, locate the webbed tunnels, clean them out and treat the holes as advised, and keep the tree healthy and pruned of dead wood since weak neglected trees suffer more. Good sanitation, removing affected shoots and galls, and an open well managed canopy reduce most issues. Because aonla is grown largely for processing, avoid unnecessary spraying and rely first on cultural control and tree health.
