Mangosteen profitability income market price exotic fruit demand selling India long wait risk

Mangosteen is called the queen of fruits and commands a high price as a premium exotic fruit because supply in India is small, but the long wait to bearing and the niche market make it a patient person's crop, not a quick earner. Once mature and bearing well, a good orchard can be rewarding because per kg prices in premium and urban markets can be attractive, and there is growing interest from exotic fruit buyers, online sellers, and some export and processing demand for products like the fruit and rind. However you carry years of cost before income, prices vary by quality and location, and the fruit must reach buyers fresh, so do not bank on a single high figure. Treat the income as a wide range to verify with actual buyers and existing growers, line up premium fruit shops, online platforms or exporters before you scale up, and intercrop early to cover costs. Plant it as a long term asset, not for fast money, and confirm market demand locally first.

Once our trees finally came into proper bearing the income was good because few people around grow it. But getting there took years of spending. If you cannot wait, this is not your crop.

We sell ours to a couple of premium fruit shops in the city and some online. The fruit must reach the buyer fresh or you lose it, so handling and quick transport matter as much as growing it.

The intercropping advice is real. We earned from banana and pineapple in the gaps for years while the mangosteen was just sitting there growing. That kept the orchard from being a pure drain in the early period.
