Yes, the filter choice depends entirely on your water, and getting it wrong is the fastest way to clog your drippers. For relatively clean borewell or well water with little suspended matter, a screen filter or a disc filter is usually enough; disc filters handle a bit more load than screens. If your borewell pumps fine sand along with the water, you add a hydrocyclone (sand separator) before the main filter to spin out the sand. If your source is open water like a farm pond, canal, or river that carries silt, algae, and organic matter, you need a sand or media filter, often followed by a screen or disc filter as a safety stage. Many good systems use two stages: a primary filter for the bulk load and a fine filter near the head as backup. Size the filter to your flow rate, not just any model. Whatever you fit, you must clean it regularly, because even the best filter chokes if neglected and then starves the field. Tell your vendor your source type and whether the water carries sand or organic matter so they size and combine the filters correctly. This filter unit is part of the system covered under the micro irrigation subsidy, so confirm the empanelled options on your state portal.

My pond water needed a sand filter plus a disc filter. A plain screen would have clogged in a day with the algae. Match it to the source.

My bore threw fine sand. The hydrocyclone fixed it, before that the filter clogged constantly. Ask the vendor if you have sandy water.
