How do I get lightning alerts to stay safe while working in the field?

Install the Damini app from IMD, which sends a lightning alert for strikes within about 20 to 40 km of your location so you get time to take shelter. Lightning kills many farm workers every monsoon, so this matters. Damini gives a warning and advice when lightning is detected near you. The moment you get an alert or hear thunder, stop work, move away from tall trees, metal tools and water, and take shelter in a strong building or vehicle if possible. Do not stand in an open field or under a lone tree. If caught in the open with no shelter, crouch low with feet together and do not lie flat. Lightning often comes with the same thunderstorms that bring hail, so the Mausam nowcast and Damini together give a good picture. Keep the app's location and notifications on during the storm season. Tell your family and labour about it too, because a few minutes of warning is enough to reach safety.
