A trader bought my produce on credit and now he is delaying payment and saying he will pay less than we agreed. What are my options to recover the money?

First gather all proof of the deal, such as the sale slip, any written agreement or message confirming the rate, and the weighment record. If the trader operates under your APMC mandi, file a written complaint with the mandi secretary or market committee, since traders work under a licence and the committee can act against a defaulting licensed trader, including action on his licence and security deposit. Many states have a dispute resolution mechanism under the marketing or contract farming rules where you can take a payment dispute. Selling through eNAM or with a proper mandi sale record protects you far better than an informal cash deal, because there is an official trail. To avoid this in future, prefer selling against immediate payment or through eNAM direct credit, and be cautious giving produce on credit to a trader you do not know well. Confirm the exact complaint and dispute resolution route for your state with the mandi office.
This is why a written slip matters so much. My cousin had no proof and could do nothing. Always get the deal on paper, even a simple signed note.
