I train workers and then they leave for someone else or for the city. How do other farmers keep their best workers loyal year after year?

Good workers stay where they are treated well and paid fairly and on time, that is most of it. Practical steps that work: pay at or slightly above the local rate and never delay wages; give a small advance (peshgi) before season so they commit to you first; provide tea, a meal or transport which workers remember and value; treat them with respect and avoid abusive supervision; and reward your best people, a small harvest bonus or a festival gift builds real loyalty. For workers who live on or near the farm, decent rest space and clean water matter. If you can offer steadier work across the year rather than only at peak, you become the employer they organise their lives around. Loyalty is built over seasons, the farmer who is consistently fair gets first call on the village labour every year.

I give my regular workers a small bonus at Diwali and pay them the same day they finish, never make them ask twice. Same families have worked with me for years.

Treating labour with respect costs nothing and keeps them coming back. The farmers in my village who shout and delay payment always struggle to find hands.
