Apart from registration, does APEDA actually help new exporters with training, finding buyers or any financial assistance.

Yes, beyond issuing the RCMC, APEDA supports exporters in several ways: it organises buyer-seller meets, international trade fairs and virtual exhibitions to connect you with overseas buyers; it runs market development and brand promotion activities; it provides market intelligence and importing-country requirements; it operates traceability systems like GrapeNet and the pomegranate system that are needed for those exports; and it has financial assistance schemes that can support infrastructure (like packhouses and cold storage), quality improvement, and market development, usually as partial reimbursement against approved expenses. The exact schemes, eligibility and assistance rates change with each Foreign Trade Policy period, so do not assume an amount, check the current Financial Assistance Scheme details on the official APEDA portal and contact your regional APEDA office. Combine this with the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund and state schemes for infrastructure finance.
The APEDA buyer-seller meets are the most useful part for a new exporter. We got our first serious lead there. Register and attend.
Contact your regional APEDA office directly, they guide on the financial assistance schemes. The rates change so do not rely on old information, ask them for the current scheme.
