When to Choose Solar
Choose solar if you have good sunlight (true for most of India), want the lowest cost and least maintenance, and want to use the PM-KUSUM subsidy - especially for a solar irrigation pump.
When to Choose Wind
Choose small wind only when a wind assessment confirms strong, steady wind - typically coastal, plateau or open-plain sites in India's wind belts - and you value power outside daylight hours.
When a Hybrid Wins
A wind-solar hybrid is the answer when your wind is decent but not constant: solar carries the day, wind fills the evenings and cloudy monsoon stretches, and you avoid an oversized battery. For irrigation specifically, a plain solar pump is usually best unless your wind is genuinely strong.
