Why a Hybrid?
Solar pumps only work while the sun shines, and a wind turbine alone is at the mercy of the breeze. A wind-solar hybrid combines the two so they cover each other: the sun usually peaks at midday, while wind is often stronger in the evening, at night, and during cloudy monsoon spells. The result is more pumping hours and steadier output than either source alone, with less reliance on a big, expensive battery. A hybrid shines exactly where neither solar nor wind is sufficient on its own.
How a Hybrid Pump Works
Solar panels and a small wind turbine both feed a hybrid controller, which combines their power to drive the pump motor. Some systems add a small battery to smooth supply; many run direct-to-pump to keep cost down. The controller manages whichever source is producing at the time.

Subsidy - Read This Carefully
PM-KUSUM subsidises solar pumps, not the wind part of a hybrid. So the solar component may qualify for support while the wind turbine generally will not. Hybrid vs a Plain Solar Pump
If your only goal is daytime irrigation and your site is not especially windy, a subsidised solar pump is usually the better value. Choose a hybrid when your wind is genuinely strong, when you need to pump in the evening or during long cloudy monsoon runs, or when you want to cut battery cost while keeping supply steady.
