Cost by System Type

Prices range widely and are always site-specific, so treat any figure as indicative and get written quotes. As a rule of thumb: a mechanical windmill pump is the lowest-tech and often the lowest-cost option for shallow water; a small electric turbine costs more, especially once you add a tower and battery; and a wind-solar hybrid costs the most upfront because it stacks two technologies. Per unit of energy, small wind is generally pricier than solar.

What Changes the Price

  • Size (kW) and the pump or load you need to run.
  • Tower height - taller towers cost more but capture far more energy.
  • Battery storage for off-grid use adds a large share of the cost.
  • Site & civil work - foundation, access and wiring.
  • Grid-tie hardware and metering if you connect to the grid.

Payback - the Honest Math

Payback depends almost entirely on your actual wind, because energy output rises steeply with wind speed. At a genuinely windy site a system can pay back in a reasonable number of years; on a weak-wind plot the same hardware may never pay back. Financing It

Options include a bank or NABARD term loan, and for allied/working-capital needs a Kisan Credit Card. Farm businesses and producer companies may be able to claim accelerated depreciation on renewable assets - check with your accountant. Remember that, unlike solar, there is no broad PM-KUSUM-style subsidy for wind (see subsidy reality).
