I grow wheat, chana and mustard. A single thresher that handles all three is being offered. Is it practical or should I hire separately?

A multi crop thresher uses changeable sieves and adjustable drum speed to thresh wheat, gram, mustard, soybean and other crops with one machine, which suits a mixed farm. For 10 acres across three crops, owning can pay off if you also do a little custom threshing for neighbours, since it spreads the cost over more hours. The catch is that you must change sieves and tune the speed for each crop or you get grain breakage and high losses. If your total threshing days are few, hiring through a custom hiring centre is often cheaper. Check grain damage on a trial run before buying, and confirm PTO HP needed matches your tractor.
I bought a multi crop thresher for wheat and soybean. The trick is changing the sieve and lowering drum speed for soybean or you crack a lot of seed. After learning the settings it works well for both.
A used multi crop thresher in good condition can cut your cost a lot, but check the drum, bearings and sieves carefully and run a trial on each crop before paying. I saw grain breakage on one used unit that the seller had hidden. Always test it loaded, not empty.
