How to control fruit fly and pod borer in drumstick (moringa) pods?

Drumstick pods are damaged by fruit fly maggots and by pod or fruit borers that tunnel into the pods, making them unfit for market. Since pods are eaten and picked often, lean on non chemical tools first: collect and destroy fallen and infested pods, use pheromone or cuelure traps for fruit fly, and apply recommended neem based products at early infestation. Hairy caterpillars and budworms on flowers should be handpicked or managed at the small stage. If any spray is unavoidable, use a recommended product strictly as per label and pre harvest interval and never near harvest. Confirm trap type and any approved chemical with your KVK, as moringa is harvested very frequently.

In Anantapur my moringa pods got both maggots and borers, and collecting and destroying fallen pods daily cut the next generation. Cuelure traps for the fruit fly helped me monitor too.

One point: since moringa is picked so often I avoid chemicals and use recommended neem based products at early signs. Any spray I do is strictly as per label and never near harvest.
