Where do KVK weather advisories come from and how do I sign up for free SMS?

KVK weather advisories come from IMD's district agromet service, where the KVK combines the official forecast with local crop knowledge, and you can sign up free at your nearest KVK or on the official agromet advisory portal. Each district has an agromet unit, often run through the KVK, that issues the twice weekly bulletin. To sign up, visit or call your nearest KVK and give your mobile number and main crops, and they add you to the free SMS or WhatsApp list. You can also register on the IMD or state agromet advisory service and on the Meghdoot app. The SMS comes in your local language with the forecast and the action to take in your crops. It is free, so there is no reason not to register. If you do not know your KVK, the district agriculture office can tell you. Once registered you will get advice before sowing, spraying, irrigation and harvest decisions, tied to the actual forecast for your district.
