The main pest of stored and ripening tamarind is the pod borer beetle, which bores into pods and pulp and continues damaging stored pulp, so timely harvest and clean dry storage matter most. Harvest when pods are fully mature with brown brittle shells and dark sticky pulp, not while still green, as immature pods give sour low value pulp. After harvest, deshell and dry the pulp well before storage, and store in clean airtight containers to keep borer and moisture out.
