How do I control turcicum leaf blight in maize?

Turcicum leaf blight shows long greyish-green to tan cigar-shaped lesions on maize leaves, spreading in cool, humid weather and able to cut yield badly if it hits before flowering. Manage it by growing tolerant or resistant hybrids, rotating maize with non-host crops, and removing or ploughing in old infected stubble that carries the fungus. If the disease appears early and weather stays wet, spray a recommended fungicide such as mancozeb, or a triazole like propiconazole, starting at first lesions and repeating as per label, focusing on protecting the leaves around and above the cob. Balanced fertiliser and avoiding very dense planting improve airflow and reduce spread. Confirm fungicide choice and dose with your local KVK.

In our hill weather it spreads fast in a wet spell. Tolerant hybrids plus an early mancozeb spray kept my cobs filling.

In Uttarakhand hills I stopped planting maize after maize on the same terrace and rotated with rajma. The disease pressure dropped clearly because the old infected stubble was not feeding it every year.

One caution: spray at the very first lesions, not after the leaves are covered. I waited too long one year and even two sprays could not save the upper leaves, so the cobs filled poorly.
