I want to time my OFSP crop properly. When should I plant the vines and how many months until the tubers are ready to lift?

Sweet potato is grown in different seasons depending on region, commonly a rainy-season crop and also a winter/spring crop where water is available, and it generally takes around three to four and a half months from vine planting to harvest depending on variety and temperature. Plant when the worst waterlogging risk is past, because tubers rot in waterlogged soil. Lift when the lower leaves yellow and a test dig shows well-sized tubers; do not leave them too long in hot dry soil or weevil risk rises. Get the exact planting window for your district from your KVK, since it shifts with local rainfall and temperature.
In Ranchi I plant after the heaviest monsoon spells so the ridges drain. A test dig before full harvest tells me when they are sized up. Lifting on time keeps weevil away.
