How does input and on farm input production support work under organic schemes?

Under PKVY I keep hearing about input support and on farm input production. What does that actually mean and what inputs does the scheme help me produce or buy?

On farm input production is the idea that an organic cluster should make most of its own inputs instead of buying packaged ones, which keeps cost low and quality in your control. Under PKVY and NMNF the input support typically helps the cluster set up and run things like vermicompost units, compost pits, liquid bio fertiliser and bio pesticide preparation such as jeevamrit, ghanjeevamrit and neem based sprays, and may support some bought organic inputs, biofertilisers and botanicals in the early period. The thinking is that by the end of the cluster period you are largely self sufficient in inputs, which is what makes organic and natural farming economically sustainable. So the support is partly equipment and material to produce inputs on farm, and partly a starter supply while your own production builds up. Ask your block agriculture office for the head wise breakup in your cluster sanction so you know exactly what input support you get and in what form, whether cash, in kind or shared cluster facility. The components and amounts are set in the scheme guidelines and updated periodically, so confirm current details with your agriculture department.

The vermicompost and jeevamrit setup the cluster funded is the part I still use years later. The bought inputs ran out, but the on farm production keeps going. Learn to make the inputs properly during the training, do not just take the material, then your cost drops to almost nothing.
