Trying to budget for OFSP on one acre. What does planting cost roughly and what tuber yield and income can I realistically expect?

Treat all numbers as broad ranges that depend on your soil, irrigation and the rate you get. Establishment of one acre of OFSP from vine cuttings, land prep, fertiliser, ridging and labour is usually a moderate cost compared with many vegetables because the planting material is cheap once you have a nursery. Yields commonly fall in a wide band per acre depending on variety, soil and crop length (roughly a few tonnes to higher with good management on light fertile soil). Income depends heavily on whether you sell as a plain commodity tuber or into a nutrition or health channel that pays for the orange colour. Costs and farm-gate rates vary a lot by district, so confirm local figures with your KVK and check current mandi rates before you commit acreage.
My honest experience near Varanasi: yield was decent but the local market paid me the same as ordinary sweet potato. The premium only came when I found a couple of organic shops. Do not assume the orange colour automatically gets you more money.
