Powdery mildew appears as white powdery patches first on the upper side of older cucurbit leaves, later covering both sides, and unlike downy mildew it favours warm dry weather with cool nights. It reduces leaf life and fruit size and quality. Remove and destroy heavily affected lower leaves, avoid excess nitrogen, and keep plants well spaced and trellised for air flow. Wettable sulphur and other recommended fungicides are used at early symptoms and rotated, but follow the label, avoid sulphur in very hot weather to prevent leaf scorch, and respect the pre harvest interval. Confirm the spray and dose with your KVK since cucurbits are sensitive and harvested frequently.

On my pumpkin in UP powdery mildew always starts in the cool dry weather. Wettable sulphur early helped but I learnt not to use it in peak heat, it scorched the leaves one year.

On my pumpkin powdery mildew comes every year in the cooler dry spell. Early removal of the first few white leaves and good spacing kept it from spreading badly.

A tip from me: do not push too much nitrogen. The season I over fed urea the soft lush leaves caught powdery mildew far worse than my balanced fed plots.

Wider spacing and trellising my ridge gourd for air flow made the biggest difference for me. The crowded ground grown vines stayed damp and shaded inside and the white patches spread fastest there.

One caution: do not keep using the same fungicide. I leaned on one product for a whole season and it stopped working, rotating modes of action as per the label and KVK advice held it much better.
